Last weekend Erik and I headed out for a quick weekend dash to Calgary. Ditching the highway and winding along some old country roads, we spent the better part of our mornings sleeping in, lost in a gigantic mess of a hotel bed. Deluxe. We taste-tested our way through the city, including a fantastic dinner at FARM. And to the surprise of our friends outside of Alberta, we basked in some beautiful sunlight most of the weekend. A few brave people even strolled by sporting t-shirts. A little shoe shopping may have been done and a few giant gulps of wine may have been taken. A venture through the Fred Herzog exhibit at the Glenbow Museum blew our minds and I have since become obsessed with Isabella and Quilt. As the weekend unraveled so did I.
I needed this. I needed this big time.
Believe it! People are sportin’ t-shirts.
And what OSU grad wouldn’t notice this homage to our beloved beaver?
Old School Emporium. Taking local grocery stores to a whole new, wicked cool level.
This may have resulted in a shoe purchase. It may not have. I say no more.
Poor Erik, caught red-handed in the midst of husband purse holding duties at Peter’s Drive-In. We split a shake and some onion rings…yum!
Fred Herzog Exhibit.
OEB. Aka, Over Easy Breakfast was a serious Breakfast joint. And that’s with a capital B. We waited longer than what I would define as acceptable, but the staff was magnificent. They made sure we were happy campers waiting outside by bringing us gifts of warm coffee and banana loaf-goodness. This place comes highly recommended but be prepared because the wait to be seated is quite long. I will say, though, the food was so, so, so good. I can safely tell you the wait is worth the bite.

Looks like the perfect “Family Day” weekend getaway for two. So glad you guys managed to squeeze this one in. Kristen… all your pictures are great, but the last one of this bunch, I really! love. “Country Roads” is a perfect representation of the Alberta prairies in winter time and this shot takes me back home in a flash. Thanks! Love, D
